EURid?s head office will be located in Brussles and will house the main development and operational teams. Its support organization will oversee the central region of Europe while regional offices overlooking the northern and southern regions will be established in Sweden and Italy.
EURid says that it will promote competition by working through a network of registrars, who will have access to a completely automated registration system.
EURid?s nomination is the latest step in the process of creating a new European top-level domain.
.eu domains are expected to go live within six months of the agreement?s finalization. The organization estimates that the potential of one million domain names after one year will be possible.
