August 6, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Domain name registration provider Go Daddy Software (GoDaddy.com) announced on Tuesday that it has launched a sister company, Wild West Domains (WildWestDomains.com), designed to offer the company?s range of domain registration and Web hosting service specifically to the reseller market.
?We found that there is a big demand for people who want to be in the reseller business,? says Go Daddy?s president founder Bob Parsons, ?and don?t want to underwrite all the costs and system implementation that goes along with becoming a registrar.?
Go Daddy originally offered a private label program to allow resellers to offer Go Daddy services, but the system presented certain inconsistencies, says Parsons. ?When people would check the whois information they would see the name being registered under Go Daddy,? he says, ?so it wasn?t an ideal program.?
Customers following the whois information to Go Daddy?s Web site would often find a difference in prices, a situation that created some dissatisfaction, and one that Parsons says is resolved by the introduction of Wild West Domains.
?In contrast with Go Daddy,? says Parsons, ?Wild West provides services only to resellers. It doesn?t sell direct at all, so it?s not possible for the customer to go around its reseller and purchase direct.?
The domain reseller market, says Go Daddy, is an appealing value-added service to companies whose competencies lie in services like Web design, hosting or ISPs. Wild West Domains? partners receive wholesale pricing, which allows them to compete in the domain market, even with Go Daddy itself.
And in addition to its domain registration products, Wild West Domains provides Web hosting, email and Web mail, forwarding and masking and 24-hour customer support to both resellers and their customers.
Though the product was announced on Tuesday, says Parsons, Wild West Domains has been in operation for several weeks, introduced first to Go Daddy?s existing resellers. Among those, says Parsons, every reseller has chosen to switch to Wild West Domains.
